New User Registration

Welcome to UCLA Library Special Collections. All first-time users must create an LSC User Account. This account allows users to:

  • Submit requests automatically through the online catalog, UC Library Search
  • Submit requests automatically through finding aids on the Online Archive of California (OAC)
  • Submit requests in advance of your visit or while at the library
  • Submit requests for duplication (digital scans/photocopies) of special collections materials
  • Track the status of each request
  • Access detailed information about past requests

Before you create an LSC User Account account, you must read and agree to adhere by our policies for access and use of LSC materials. For general questions please visit our FAQ.


Requesting Material

The majority of LSC's holdings are stored off-site at the Southern Regional Library Facility and researchers must request materials in advance using your LSC User Account. Requests must be made 2 business days in advance of your visit; additional time is needed for for collections that contain audiovisual or archival materials. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Due to space constraints, the following paging limits are enforced:

  • Retrieval of off-site holdings is limited to 5 boxes/items per day
  • Retrieval of on-site holdings is limited to 5 boxes/items per hour

Materials Access and Use Policy

Library Special Collections (LSC) materials are available for use by all members of the public who are eighteen years of age or older with valid ID. University of California (UC) students, faculty, and staff receive primary consideration and non UC-afilliated researchers may occasionally be asked to reschedule a research visit LSC's collections due to lack of reading room space.


Assets

LSC materials do not circulate and may only be consulted in the Ahmanson-Murphy reading room.

Manuscript collections and archival records may contain sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations. Researchers are advised that the disclosure of certain information pertaining to identifiable living individuals without the consent of those individuals may have legal ramifications (e.g. the use of libelous statements or the invasion of privacy) for which the UCLA Library assumes no responsibility.
